Small Claims State Research |
|
|
In the state of Nevada, small claims court is a special division of the justice court. Small claims court is designed to help parties who do not have attorneys resolve their disputes quickly and inexpensively. In small claims court, claims must be less than $7,500. Small claims judges can only award money judgments. That means the judge can only order the other side to pay money (up to $7,500). The judge cannot order the other side to do something (like return a car or a dog) or stop doing something (like playing loud music).
- Small Claims in Nevada varies from county to couny. Contact Courtlinked.com for more information. If you have a small claims case in the Las Vegas Justice Court, that court has developed its own small claims forms and procedures, which differ from the other justice courts in Clark County. Courtlinked.com will handle this for you.
Generally, the “parties” (the person suing and the person being sued) in small claims court represent themselves. This is called appearing "pro se" or "in proper person." Attorneys are allowed in small claims court. But the winning party in a small claims case cannot collect attorney's fees from the losing party. So a party who hires an attorney will be responsible for paying that attorney. Because parties generally represent themselves, the procedures and rules of evidence in small claims court are more relaxed than in ordinary justice court.
Courtlinked.com will handle your entire Nevada small claims from start to finish. |
